Craving
Episode 89 - The Krishnamurti Video Podcast with Sam Yogi
Liberation is one thing; material stuff is another. I look back at the poverty-stricken Indians who defecate on the streets, who live in makeshift houses. Don’t they have a craving for a nice pair of shoes? For a nice house with a car parked in front of it? Forget India. Let’s talk about Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Atherton in Silicon Valley, California.
I once met a person who was on the East Coast and whose wife was here, on the West Coast. We met at a Dosa place. His wife and I used to be part of a Sunday gathering in Old Union, Stanford. He would also attend when visiting. He asked me where I lived. I was living in Palo Alto, but for fun, I said Woodside. I could immediately see his mind racing: he was wondering what was wrong with him—why he was in such a desperate situation with his wife here and he on the East Coast. Did he not have a craving for a house in Woodside? Now, that is craving!
What follows is The First Krishnamurti Video Podcast on Spotify, which is Episode Number 89 of The Krishnamurti Podcast with Sam Yogi. In the 91st Episode, there will be an answer from Krishnamurti to a heavy-duty question that an audience member had on craving during Krishnamurti’s ninth talk at Ommen, Holland, on August 10, 1933. There should be a post from my side to cover that episode in a couple of days, so do tune in.
